The KPN Telecom PSTN Inter-Region Connect Service
is an optional service. This service provides conveyance of calls
that originate in the KPN network from the Regional Access Point
(RAP) in the Access Area where the destined Telco Subscriber is
located, but where Telco has no Point of Presence (PoP), to a RAP
in another Access Area where the Telco does have a PoP.
The Inter-Region Connect Service is available for calls to geographical
numbers and 06760 Internet numbers.
It requires heavy investment on the part of Telcos to create
a no Point of Presence in all twenty Access Areas. The Inter-Region
Connect Service is therefore an important service for parties
that have not created nationwide interconnection.

KPN Telecom is responsible for metering and
billing all the charges for calls that it passes to a Telco
using the Inter-Region Connect Service. |
Quality of Service
KPN Telecom's PSTN Inter Region Connect Service is monitored round
the clock by service managers at KPN's National Service Monitoring
Centre (LDBC). They watch the quality of service 24 hours a day,
7 days a week. If problems occur despite this monitoring, the
Wholesale Service Desk of LDBC provides assistance to customers.
The staff on the desk have the means to solve problems quickly.
Depending on the nature of the problem, KPN aims for a service
restoration time of 2, 4 or 8 hours.
Configuration
The KPN Telecom PSTN Inter-Region Connect Service will be available
at all KPN Regional Access Points.
