In the National Numbering Plan, the 084 number range
is reserved for services concerning electronic mailboxes. On 1 August
2000, OPTA obliged service providers to migrate so-called 'unified
messaging' services that used to be linked to geographical numbers
to the prescribed 084 numbers. The KPN Telecom PSTN Electronic Messaging
Connect Service (EMC) enables the 084 numbers of service providers
to be dialled from fixed connections on the KPN Telecom network.
